Campus

The Lancaster University campus occupies a beautiful 560-acre parkland site at Bailrigg, just three miles from Lancaster City Centre. Lancaster itself is located in the North West of the country and is just over an hour away from Manchester.

Campus is like a self-contained mini city. There are many amenities such as banks, a post office, supermarkets and general stores, a bakers, hairdresser, travel agent, charity shop – and even an ice cream parlour!

There are dozens of places to eat and drink across the campus, with cafes, restaurants and nine college bars - each one reminiscent of its college’s individual character.

Health Services include an NHS doctors surgery, a pharmacy and a private dentist on the campus.

The Bailrigg campus is brimming with culture and boasts its own theatre, art gallery and concert series.

Don't think you need to stay on campus all the time though. There are buses every 10 minutes to the centre of Lancaster. Lancaster is also convenient for visiting all the major North West cities, the Lake Distinct, the North Yorkshire Dales and even Scotland.

Colleges

Lancaster is one of the few Universities to have a collegiate system. There are nine colleges in total and they are spread over campus. Every student is allocated to a college, which college will depend on which they apply for. For first-year students accommodation is normally based in their college.

The nine colleges are:

Bowland- A small college that emphasises inclusiveness, tolerance, mutual care and respect for all.

Cartmel- The ethos of Cartmel encourages a dedication to hard work and hard play.

County - The largest of the undergraduate colleges, County retains a strong sense of community and encourages active participation in all aspects of student life – cultural, sporting and social, as well as academic.

Furness - Furness is a friendly place to be with an active social, sporting and cultural life and a strong sense of community.

Fylde -  Fylde has developed a reputation for sporting excellence - attracting students who have won representative honours at university, county and national levels.

Graduate - A college for postgraduate students, it has an international, multicultural feel and presents members with an ideal opportunity to broaden horizons, share experiences and celebrate diversity.

Grizedale - One of the two founding colleges. Always known for its welcoming atmosphere and generous spirit.

Lonsdale - Along with Grizedale one of the founding colleges. One of the largest and most vibrant colleges, Lonsdale is arguably the only college where the atmosphere in the bar rivals that of a city-centre venue.

Pendle - Pendle College is one of the tightest-knit college communities on campus, with members regularly developing a particularly strong sense of both loyalty and identity.
